This work was written to thank the pianist Tran Ngoc Nguyen Trinh for her "uncommon" investment during the creation of my lyric poem Kim Vân Kiêu in its version for five voices, narrator and piano (creation in Paris in December 2017).
The title carries in itself an aesthetic project: how to translate what is intimate, tender, minute, sensitive, the emotion "on the skin", the relationship between beings, made of fragments of memory, convergences and divergences.
This music is quite pure and simple, with a light, if not cheerful character, to be played with precision and finesse. The form is made up of various motives with very different characters which follow one another rapidly, intermingle and exchange their characteristics. The instrumentalists will have to look for the most diversified sound colors, articulations, nuances, etc. in the smallest details, and change their playing mode instantaneously at a new indication.
Although the work is to be played without interruption, in a study setting, each part can be played alone. The central part (written in 2001) is published separately by Éditions François Dhalmann in its solo viola version under the title Esquisse.
