(Elegy)
Ha-no (Elegy), for flute & piano was commissioned by the James Pappoutsakis Memorial fund for the 21st annual Pappoutsakis Flute Competition in Boston on February, 2001. Ha-no is a word: without meaning used in songs for a chief from the Tsimshian people. The slower section is based on a lullaby from the Kwakiutl people, also from the Pacific Northwest.
