Carrying a bouquet
In August 1917, few days after he had finished his magnificent symphonic poem The Ripening, Josef Suk wrote an accidental bagatelle Carrying a Bouquet. It is a charming short nocturne, whose melody is reminiscent of Suk's teacher and father-in-law, Antonín Dvorák. The piece was written for Suk's son, who played the piano, and his two friends, a violinist and flutist, who often played together and were in need of easier repertoire.
Flute may be replaced ad libitum by the 2nd violin.
