Pleyel’s Symphony in D is a delightful work. It opens with in D minor with a highly dramatic, even operatic overture character, but then moves into a refreshing, spirited D major presto. Primary material has been drawn from the original (1792) string parts, augmented with substantial harmonic function and rhythmic momentum from the woodwind and brass parts.
