Words & Music from the time of Cervantes
The Grammy-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet teams up with legendary comedian Phil Proctor (of Firesign Theatre fame) to create a unique synthesis of virtuoso narrative and musicianship in "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote: Words and Music from the Time of Cervantes." In telling the story of the famous knight of La Mancha, Mr. Proctor gives a tour-de-force dramatic performance, creating over a dozen different characters from the novel (including the quixotic gentleman and his trusty squire, Sancho Panza). Accompanying the action, LAGQ plays brilliant new arrangements (by LAGQ member William Kanengiser) of pieces from Spain's Golden Age, music that Cervantes could have heardduring his lifetime. Included are some of the "Greatest Hits of the Spanish Renaissance," including favorites like "Gaurdame las Vacas" and "Ludovico's Harp." In a multi-media presentation, the words and music merge together to take the listener on journey into Cervantes' world, giving the full measure of the humor, pathos and surrealism of this most beloved story. As a special bonus, LAGQ plays a mini-recital of the ever-popular "Barber of Seville Overture" by Rossini and "Carmen Suite" by Bizet. Filmed in front of a live audience at the Sheldon Theater in St. Louis, this is a truly innovative and unforgettable theatrical event.
