Concert March
With this concert march, the German composer Ernst Hoffmann (1928-2016) wanted to create something very special: he wanted it to sound modern and be suitable above all as an opening theme. Therefore, he decided on the title OPENING. However, it is not only the English title that exudes the scent of the wide world. The musical language is also international and reveals many of the composer’s different role models.
For example, the striking theme at the beginning could be played at an English or American military parade, whereas the second theme in 6/8 time and the melody of the TRIO are reminiscent of the music of great revues and musical theatre. This impression is also supported by Hoffmann's creative instrumentation. Above all, it is the use of the saxophone section that gives the march a special glamour, especially in the TRIO.
