Zu Händels Zeit zeigte das musikalische Publikum in London sehr großes Interesse am Operngeschehen. Kurz nachdem eine neue Oper zu sehen und zu hören gewesen war, erschienen die wichtigsten Arien in vereinfachten Fassungen zum Nachsingen und Nachspielen. In einer Bibliothek in Den Haag ist so eine Fassung überliefert: Die Singstimme des Originals wird von der Viola da Gamba übernommen, die Flöte spielt den Part der ersten Violine, das Continuo bleibt erhalten und wird am besten auf einem Cembalo realisiert.
Diese 7 Arias a 3 geben uns auch heute die Möglichkeit, Händel-Arien rein instrumental kennen zu lernen und zu musizieren. Die Flötenstimme kann auf einer Traversflöte oder einer Blockflöte in D gespielt werden. Darüber hinaus geben diese Noten einen Einblick in die Bräuche und Notwendigkeiten der Musikrezeption in einer Zeit, als es noch keine Tonträger gab.
