Der Text des "Ave verum" hat seine Stelle in der Verehrung der Eucharistie in der heiligen (katholischen) Messe. Die Gläubigen grüßen den wahren Leib des Erlösers, der bei der Wandlung in den Gestalten von Brot und Wein als real gegenwärtig geglaubt wird.
Der Text ist in vielfältiger Weise von den verschiedensten Komponisten vertont worden. Meine Vertonung ist ruhig und verhalten vorzutragen. (Lothar Graap)
