Programme Notes

An elegant, widely spaced melody sings out opening the work. Deep and unconstrained, this is contrasted with more animated, enlivened sections, which give way again to the melody. The second movement is mellow and tranquil in character, melancholic yet hopefuly. Focusing on two-part writing, melodies are interspersed between a gentle repeated note figure, which appears on three occassions. The final movement is faster, vibrant and playful with a short mysterious passage featuring swooping glissandi appearing twice.
