To this day, Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains a prolific composer for wind instruments, despite being a violinist himself. However, his compositions for other instrumentations have not gone amiss, Rhythmic for Timpani, Percussionand Piano being no exception. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire, Bozza won prizes for Violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique andbecame Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes, whilst remaining a prominent composer. Composed in 1948, Bozza's Rhythmic is so named due to its instrumentation. This percussive work is excitingly complex and a riveting additionto any performance. Containing much rhythmical variation, Bozza's Rhythmic is a sublime addition to the Percussion repertoire.
