Die Kantate BWV 166 gehört zu den im ersten Leipziger Amtsjahr Bachs aufgeführten Kirchenstücken. Sie erklang erstmals am 7. Mai 1724, dem Sonntag Cantate. Ihre Tonsprache ist plastisch und innig, was insbesondere der prominenten Rolle der obligaten Oboe und dem von den Streichern figurierten Choral zuzuschreiben ist. Mit der vorliegenden Ausgabe wird eine Lesart der Kantate vorgestellt, die das überlieferte originale Stimmenmaterial neu interpretiert.
