Facsimile: Printed score, Walsh and for the Author
Bach had not long been in London before his music found favour with the audiences of the pleasure gardens. His symphonies and songs were heard at Vauxhall from soon after his arrival in England until at least the early 1790s, a period of almost 30 years.
The present volume contains all Bach’s known Vauxhall songs: three collections, each of four songs (London, 1776, 1767, 1771), the newly-discovered Fourth Collection (1779), containing two works, and the separately-published ‘See the kind indulgent gales’ (1777).
