Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar in 1946, he spend most of his childhood in India, attending the English boarding school St. Peters. In 1964, due to the unstable political situation in Zanzibar, he moved with his family to Middlesex, England. He soon joined his first band Wreckage. He was then introduced to Roger Taylor and Brian May, with whom he teamed up for their band Smile. In 1971, John Deacon joined, and the newly named band Queen was complete.
After over a decade of world fame with Queen, he began to pursue solo projects. Along with the 1985 solo-album Mr. Bad Guy, he recorded a collaborative album with opera singer Montserrat Caballé, which included the original song after which the album was named, Barcelona, which was chosen to be the theme song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Unfortunately, Freddie did not live to see this. After a struggle against AIDS, he died on 24th November 1991.
