The Czech composer Viktor Kalabis has composed numerous instrumental works, including five symphonies, several solo concertos and chamber music. His compositional techniques are close to neoclassicism. In addition to echoes of the models Stravinsky, Bartók and Martinu, a consistent, mainly bitonally organized individual style is also evident. The expressive Fantasy for oboe and piano was composed in 1995 and is one of the few works by Kalabi to focus on the sound of the oboe.
