Albumblatt für Ernst Benedikt Kiez: "Lied ohne Worte" / Albumblatt für Frau Betty Schott
It is not widely known that Wagner was a piano composer too. This is why three piano works from the anthology 'Klavierwerke' (Schott ED 7700) have now been published as single editions which are sure to find their way into the repertoire of pianists. The two album leafs are dedicated to important people in Wagner's life. Albumblatt für Ernst Benedikt Kietz, is about a close friend of Wagner and was written during his first visit to Paris. Albumblatt für Frau Betty Schott is a token of gratitude to the patroness and widow of the music publisher Franz Schott from Mainz. It contains, albeit hidden, reminiscences of motifs from the 'Mastersingers'. This lovely character piece is also Wagner's last work for piano.
