La Retraite - La Ballade du Pâtre - Danse norvegienne
Heft 2
Not many people know that Offenbach was an excellent cellist. He earned his living with cello playing at the beginning of his time in Paris. His partner on the piano was Friedrich von Flotow. For their performances, the two wrote their own pieces, including the pieces in this volume. Both parts are quite demanding. The melodies are full-blown concert pieces that oscillate in the border area between concert literature and salon music.
