Die acht Sätze von Dmitri Schostakowitschs Suite Nr. 2 für Jazz-Orchester sind größtenteils Ausschnitte von Filmmusiken aus den Jahren 1940 bis 1956. Besonders bekannt aus dieser Suite ist der Walzer Nr. 2, ursprünglich eine Hintergrundmusik im Film "Die erste Staffel" von Michail Kalatozow (1956); der Walzer wird in vielen weiteren Filmen zitiert, so in Stanley Kubricks "Eyes Wide Shut" von 1999.
Die Bearbeitungen für vierhändiges Klavier halten sich nahe am Original, am besten passt wohl der Begriff Transkription. Der Primo-Part ist technisch anspruchsvoller als der Secondo Part. (Simon Bischof)
