This powerful opening tune by the American composer Alfred reed was commissioned by the Rissho Kosei-kai Organization. The music is based on two contrasting groups of motifs. The first group consists of a number of fanfare-like figures that immediately suggest the festive character of the piece. The second group consists of the development of a long melodic line at times interrupted by the fanfare motifs of the first group. As the figures from both groups get more interwoven, the composition returns to the impressive character of the opening and gets more powerful towards the mighty conclusion.
