On the occasion of its centenary the ‘Excelsior' band from the Frisian town Rijperkerk (The Netherlands) commissioned its former conductor Feike van Tuinen to write a concert piece. One of his inspiration sources was the series of portraits of musicians that he remembered while writing this piece. ‘Portraits' is a splendid concert piece for bands of the lower divisions.
