Viktor Kalabis, born in 1924, studied piano, composition and conducting at the Prague Conservatoire and at the University in the same city. Today he is one of the best-known Czech composers, with most of his music written for orchestra and chamber ensembles. These "Three Monologues", bold movements all of them, give the cello numerous opportunities for cantabile playing and for shaping beautiful sounds.
