"Allegro Brillante" was composed in 1997 for a composition competition in Prague. The fast and energetic overture was to be played virtuoso and in a slightly Italian manner. Towards the end of the work, the composer reveals with a slightly modified quote whose humour and compositional virtuosity he particularly appreciates - indeed Jacques Offenbach's.
