Josef Franz Wagner was an Austrian military bandmaster and composer, also known as the “Austrian March King”.

The March “Unter dem Doppeladler” is reminiscent of the double-headed golden eagle on the coat of arms of Austria and Hungary.

This march has also become famous for its use in the American march repertoire by the American composer and conductor John Philip Sousa, who has recorded several performances of it since it became the official march of the Austrian Artillery Regiment.
