Carl Maria von Weber’s ‘grand, heroic, romantic’ opera “Euryanthe” (1823) foreshadows Wagner’s music dramas in many respects due to its use of the ‘Leitmotiv’ technique.

Weber died in London at the age of 39 following the successful staging of his final opera, “Oberon” (1826). Wagner, seeing himself as Weber’s legitimate musical heir, took the initiative to have Weber’s remains reburied in Dresden in 1844. For the procession to the new...
