This little overture is composed in Aeolian minor. As it is the leading tone which is missing here, the work is of a more undecided nature – which often is identical to the behavior of a young sailor sailing across the seas. The central section (in major mode) suggests that the seaman goes ashore where there is a magnificent tropical island. This is why the music is of very gay spirit here.
