The Dutch town of Weert was originally (in 1062) called Wherta and is derived from the Dutch word ‘Waard’. The small town’s value is its high location in the middle of a marshland. The work describes the history of how Belgium and the Netherlands fought a long battle to gain possession of the town during the revolution in the Low Countries in the 16th century.
