Symphony Eb4, composed ca. 1771–1772, is an impressivefour-movement work scored for Wanhal’s customary forces of 2 oboes, 2 horns and strings. The work appears to have been reasonably well disseminated in the eighteenth century; it appears in both the Breitkopf Catalogue (Supplement X 1775) and the Quartbuch (ca. 1775) and two copies are known in which the work is attributed to Joseph Haydn.
