The melody of the Marche des Rois is attributed to Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632– 1687) (Marche de Turenne). It is known as a French Christmas carol from the Provence, the text written by Joseph-François Domergue (1691–1729), senior priest at Aramon from 1724 until 1728. In the carol, an observer relates how the Magi and their entourage pass by, bearing expensive gifts on their way to pay their respects to the newborn Jesus.
