Johann Stamitz is considered the founding father of the Mannheim school of musical innovation. His two sons, Carl and Anton, were important members of the group, as well. He was instrumental in setting the four-movement symphonic structure and the sonata form.Concertmaster of the Orchestra in Mannheim, Stamitz wrote more than fifty symphonies and many other works.
