This new original composition by the Japanese composer Itaru Sakai for ten-part brass ensemble is characterised by two main ideas: a fanfare section, deriving from a literal quotation from the opening of Mahler’s fifth symphony, and a contrasting,wandering theme that’s rather melancholy.
