Description

Scheherazade, Opus 35, is a symphonic poem by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov from 1888. This orchestral work, based on the tale One Thousand and One Nights, is characterized by two typical features of Russian music and particularly Rimsky-Korsakov's compositions: a colorful instrumentation and a widespread fascination in the Russian Empire with all things Oriental. The composition premiered on October 28, 1888, in Saint Petersburg, conducted by Rimsky-Korsakov himself.
