"Four Sketches for Band" consists of four short movements of different characters with catchy melodies and easy-to-understand rhythms. The movements describe scenes at an old fairground: jugglers and street musicians, a merry-go-round, giants and dwarves and finally all the colourful hustle and bustle are vividly worked out with skilfully set contrasts and changes in rhythm and instrumentation. The individual movements are also very suitable as encores.
