Our second version is based on the singing of the folk-song pioneer A L Lloyd, whose career included a voyage on board a whaler in the 1930s. The mixolydian mode (A major with a G natural) contributes to the plaintive character of the song.

Cette deuxième version de l’air se fonde sur l’interprétation du chanteur de folk pionnier A L Lloyd qui participa à un voyage à bord d’un baleinier dans les années 1930. Le mode myxolydien (la majeur avec sol bécarre) contribue au caractère de lamentation de cette chanson.

Unsere zweite Fassung bezieht sich auf den Gesang des Volksmusikpioniers A L Lloyd, der in den 1930er Jahren auch eine Reise an Bord eines Walfängers unternahm. Der mixolydische Modus (A-Dur mit einem aufgelösten G) verleiht dem Lied einen wehmütigen Charakter.
