à Alexandra
"As with all barcaroles, the origins of my Barcarolle (w 206) lie in the Venetian gondola or boatman's song. It is also of a calm character (Andantino sognante) and its dreamy 6/4 metre evokes the mood of a swaying boat trip in the canals of Venice. This composition was written in the context of my opera "Casanova - oder: Der reife Gesang", which accounts for the connection to the lagoon city. The French spelling of the title is due to my love of France. Even greater is my love for my wife Alexandra, who received this piece of music in 2000 beneath the Christmas tree as a musical declaration of love – and whom I was able to marry the following year … a marital bliss that was not granted to the Venetian libertine. But he didn't play the flute as well as my Alexandra."
The composer, pianist and conductor Franck Adrian Holzkamp (*1966) has provided SYRINX-Verlag with expert assistance in many editions. This piece of music by the Munich composer, who grew up in Bielefeld, lays the foundation for a collaboration in which further publications for flute in a wide variety of instrumentations are planned.
