In the 1910s, a romantic infatuation for the harpist Eleonora Damskaja moved the young Sergei Prokofiev to compose three short pieces for harp and dedicate them to her. Two of these compositions later found their way into his piano cycles op. 12 and 22 and became known in this form; however, the third piece, a mystical Andante, remained unpublished until after his death.
