Setting: Concert Band • Choir (SATB) • Narrator • 5 Vocal Soloists
This 26-movement arrangement of Grieg's theater music for Ibsen's drama "Peer Gynt" offers a wide range of performance options. In addition to the complete two-hour performance of all movements with speakers, vocal soloists and choir, only parts or individual movements can be performed.
Connecting texts contain short sequences from Ibsen's drama and are presented in dialogues by several people and a narrator. Alternatively, texts for the performance with only one narrator are also included. They were designed in such a way that any sentences can be left out and the story of Peers Gynt is told in full.
A performance without a soloist or choir is also possible.
This edition naturally also includes the two well-known "Peer-Gynt Suites", which can also be performed as such.
The texts by Marko Simsa are ideal for a 60-minute children's performance.
Below are some examples of performance variants:
- complete performance (approx. 2x 60 min.)
- Example of a reduced performance (approx. 60 min.): 1, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 25, 26
- Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (about 17 min.): 13,12,16, 7
- Peer Gynt Suite No. 2 (approx. 17 min.): 3, 15, 21, 11
A performance without oboes, English horn, bassoons, double bass and harp is easily possible through the use of cue notes.
