This revised edition is based on the original publication by Schlesinger. The pieces are taken from the suite „Grande Scène espagnole pour violoncelle“ accompanied by a string sextet or a string orchestra.

As Offenbach himself played the violoncello, too, he wrote a series of compositions for this instrument between 1838 and 1853 which he loved to perform together with his friend, piano player and composer Friedrich von Flotow, in various Parisian salons.
