Moniuszko wanted to give Polish society national songs, Polish songs, which could take an important place in the everyday life of Poles.
When a large handful of songs had already gathered, Moniuszko made up his mind to publish them in notebooks under the general title: "Songbook for Home Use".
The name of this collection eloquently demonstrates the intention: they are to be songs for home use, intended for everyone, for different circumstances of everyday life. They are also meant to meet the different moods and needs of the heart, which is why their diversity is so rich. [Witold Rudziński]
