A Serenata
Musica Britannica 68
Scored for soprano and tenor soloists, SATB chorus and orchestra, the serenata Solomon is an outstanding example of the 18th-century pastoral genre at its most poetically rich and distinctive. At one time second only to the Messiah in popularity, it deserves equivalent notice today as a masterpiece of the English baroque and as a profuse flowering of Boyce’s exceptional talents.
