Commissioned by the choir of Christ Church Parish in Pensacola, this sublime text by John Donne is given a thoughtful and skillful setting by Gerald Near. The organ part is lyrical and supportive, there is an optional a cappella section of about eight measures. Never above a dynamic of mf, this is restrained and elegant music.
