It is a military march written by Frank White Meacham in 1885, which includes musical themes and melodies from patriotic American songs.

Composed for piano, it was later arranged for band and published by Carl Fischer in 1891. In 1941 Jerry Gray arranged a swing version of this march for the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
