Bohuslav Martinù wrote the two volumes of songs from Moravian folk poetry with piano accompaniment (H 5094 and H 5095) during World War II. Through the miniature of song, all the intimacy of home comes to life, and Martinù, thousands of miles away in American exile, turns to it time after time.

The songs are technically accessible to all amateur singers, while their grace and beauty have secured them a place in the repertoire of concert singers.
