Although Madetoja is not often regarded as a composer of piano music, he has composed several fine pieces that represent his intimate, melancholy Late Romantic style. The Pastoral Suite dating from 1916 is made up of fourmovements, the best-known of them being A Legend (Legenda). This work also exists in an orchestral arrangement.
