Ibla Erea was an ancient Greek city located in southeastern Sicily, between the territories of Gela and Syracuse. Although its exact location has not been confirmed, eighteenth-century tradition identified it with present-day Ibla, a historic part of the city of Ragusa. The name Hybla is thought to derive from the Sicilian goddess, protector of fields and fertility, while Heraia served to distinguish it from other cities of the same name.
