Sebastian Lee was born in Hamburg on 24.12.1805 and died there on 4.1.1887. In his native city he had cello lessons with Johann Nikolaus Prell (1773-1849), a pupil of Bernhard Romberg. From 1837-1843 he was principal cellist at the Paris Opera and then taught at the Paris Conservatoire until 1868. After that he returned to his native city of Hamburg.
