Rudolf Kreutzer's Etudes (1766-1831) are excellent and irreplaceable in pedagogical violin literature. They could be said to contain the quintessence of the problems of playing this instrument, both in terms of training of the bow technique and in terms of strengthening the principles of the left hand.
