The Deutschmeister were an Austrian infantry regiment of the imperial and royal army. August Wilhelm Jurek, who was only 23 at the time, wrote this march about this regiment, which is so melodious and catchy that it was not only included in the Deutschmeister's repertoire, but soon became one of Austria's most popular military marches and was also widely used beyond the borders of the country and military music.
