The original score of Janacek's Our Father was written in 1900. The setting of the text to music was prompted by the cycle of paintings by the contemporary Polish painter, which inspired Janacek to acquire his own, socially acute interpretation of the prayer. The dramatic sequence of the individual scenes anticipates in its expression the opera Jenufa. Edited by Bohumir Stedron.
