Ireland's setting, for speaker and piano, of Edgar Allan Poe’s 'Annabel Lee' could be used either to add varietyto a song recital, or to form the unusual centrepiece of a soiree or similar programme of mixed entertainment. Like the two songs also included in this collection, it was written in the second decade of the 20th century, and ispublished for the first time.
