This Tema con Variazioni (1974) was written for a clarinet exam at the Paris Conservatoire. Composed for the A clarinet at Ulysse Delécluse’s request, it features six variations and a cadenza based on the main theme. The piece, dedicated to Françaix’s grandson Olivier, reflects a playful, mischievous child, showcasing Françaix’s characteristic style.
