This volume includes Fontanelli's second book of madrigals, published in 1604. The editor has traced the provenance of authorship of the texts set by Fontanelli, many of which the composer was the first to set. A few hitherto unpublished and illuminating settings by other composers are included in the appendix. Texts, translations, and commentary are provided for each piece.
